The Blackshear Exchange Club would like to welcome their newest member, Casey Smith. She is a dental assistant at “The Dental Care Associates”, under Dr. Crummey. Casey is married to Robbie Smith and they have two children, Ethan and Ashlynn. She has lived in Pierce county for 21 years. “We are so excited to have her as a new member. She is a wonderful person and will be a true asset to our club,” stated Club President, Renee Choate.

The Blackshear Exchange Club welcomes, Eddie Vergara as a new member, sponsored by Renee Choate. Mr. Vergara is the Director of Rehabilitation Services at Memorial Satilla Health Hospital in Waycross. He and his wife Gretchen live in Pierce County with their three children, Aiden, 10; Carter, 6 and Lilly Kate is 8 months old. He has been here since July and stated he is very pleased to be here and looking forward to being active in the community.

Wesley Howard was chosen as the 2017 Volunteer Fire Fighter of the Year and recognized by the Blackshear Exchange Club. Leonard Robert, director of the Pierce County Emergency Management Agency, stated, “Wesley was chosen almost unanimously and is truly deserving of the award. We are very proud to have him and are thankful for his services to the community.”

Pierce County Sheriff, Ramsey Bennett, announced that Penny White was voted the Dispatcher of the Year for 2017. He stated, “Penny is always calm, cool and collected” and is a pleasure to work with and is very deserving of this award. Dennis Fulford thanked Penny for her service to the community on behalf of the Blackshear Exchange Club.

The Deputy of the Year for 2017 was awarded to Donald Shuman. Sheriff Ramsey Bennett stated, “This award is based on a track record of consistency in several different areas and Donald was very deserving of this award.” Dennis Fulford thanked Donald for his service to our community on behalf of the Blackshear Exchange Club.

The Blackshear Exchange Club was recognized at their recent District Convention and was awarded the "Club of the Year" once again for small Exchange Clubs. This is the 20th year this club has won this prestigious award. The club just recently moved from a Small Club to a Medium Club, due to increased membership, and they look forward to the challenge of getting this award next year as well. Mittie Vaughn presented the awards. Stephen James led the club this year as President, and did an outstanding job. Renee Choate was awarded the" Exchangite of the Year" for recruiting the most new members to one club throughout the district. Jenna Parr was the May Student of the Month for the Exchange club. Jenna is actively involved in Chorus, Literary, FCA, and Tennis (9-11) at PCHS. Has done much mission work via FBC Blackshear. After high school, she plans to continue pursuing her singing career until she either makes it or doesn't...and then complete college.
